Resources Himalaya Foundation and Environmental Graduates in Himalaya jointly organized 121st series of Pralad Yonzon Conservation Forum (PYCF) presenting Mr. Amrit Devkota as a key expert presenter. He has been working for terre des hommes (TDH) Germany since 2017 and currently he is working in the capacity of a program coordinator representing Nepal for TDH. He has his Masters done in Environment Science and Political Science from Tribhuvan University. Mr. Devkota is a development professional with more than a decade experience on environment related project development and implementation, monitoring and evaluation, capacity development, advocacy, communication and documentation. He had his presentation delivered on “Social Entrepreneurship and Environmental Graduation”.
Towards the beginning of the presentation, Mr. Amrit Devkota briefly elucidated on the concept of social entrepreneurship. He stated that Social Entrepreneurship applies the principles and guidance used by start-up founders and entrepreneurs to a business that directly generates social change or impacts a social cause. A social entrepreneur is primarily motivated by a desire to alleviate some kind of systemic social or cultural problem. According to him, social entrepreneurship benefits the world and its societies in many ways as businesses can help lessen the burden of poverty, foster inclusion, promote institutional change, empower women, help protect the environment, and the list goes on. Additionally, he described the five basic steps in the social entrepreneurship process:
Furthermore, Mr. Devkota also informed us about the importance and researches done so far in Nepal in case of Social Entrepreneurship.
A brief discussion session followed Mr. Devkota`s presentation in which some queries put forward by the audience were duly answered. He concluded his talk by reiterating the importance and duties of a social entrepreneur in the local and regional scale. Eventually, the program ended with a brief vote of thanks from Dr Dinesh Raj Bhuju, the Chairperson of Resources Himalaya Foundation.
